EIA Releases Annual U.S. Refining Capacity Report

The annual Refinery Capacity Report from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) was released in June. According to the report the combined atmospheric crude oil distillation capacity of all U.S. refineries is 17.8 million barrels per day, an increase of more than 500,000 barrels per day compared to this time last year.

The biggest reason for this increase in capacity is Motiva's Port Arthur Refinery in Texas. The joint venture between Shell Oil and Saudi Refining is now producing over 600,250 barrels per day, making it the largest refinery in the country.
