The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced plans to change the toxic emissions standards for oil refineries. EPA said the draft regulation should be ready by February of 2014 and that the deadline for finalizing the rules was Dec. 19, 2014.
According to the EPA, the actions were part of a consent decree to settle the lawsuit filed in September 2012 by the Environmental Integrity Project, Air Alliance Houston, California Communities Against Toxics and others. These groups accused the agency of putting public health at risk by failing to update the toxic emissions standards.
