EPA Announces Plan to Reduce Renewable Fuels Mandate

The EPA will wait until early next year to issue a new quota on renewable fuel standards, but says it will be in the 15 billion to 15.52 billion gallon range. Prior to this, an 18.15 billion gallon figure had been laid out in 2007 legislation.

“While the agency took a step in the right direction, more must be done,” said Jack Gerard of the American Petroleum Institute. "They are getting close to making sure they don’t breach us through the blend wall.”

Brent Erickson of Biotechnology Industry Organization cautions this move “could significantly chill investments in advanced biofuels projects. We will focus over the immediate comment period on convincing the administration to right the course on this policy.”
