Abu Dhabi to Develop Petrochemicals Giant

Abu Dhabi has officially launched the company that will oversee the development of the world’s largest petrochemicals complex, the first phase of which is expected to cost up to $20 billion, the state news agency, WAM, reported.

The emirate is on a drive to diversify its economy away from its dependence on oil, which includes establishing complimentary industries and ancillary services.

Process Turns Raw Biomass into Biofuel

U.S. biochemists say they have developed a two-step chemical process that can convert cellulose in raw biomass into promising biofuels.

University of Wisconsin researchers said the new process is unprecedented in its use of untreated, inedible biomass as the starting material.

NASA Glenn Working on Project to Power Fuel Cell Electric Bus With Hydrogen from Lake Erie

The NASA Glenn Research Center is working with the RTA, the Great Lakes Science Center and United Technologies Corp. to power a fuel cell electric bus with hydrogen drawn from lake water.

State documents reveal that the NASA consortium, which includes 12 partners, has applied for a $2.6 million grant from the Ohio Third Frontier Wright Projects program.

Other members of the consortium include Parker Hannifin Corp
