Shell, China Oil Cos May Make Joint Iraq Oilfield Bid

Royal Dutch Shell PLC is in advanced talks with China's two biggest state-owned oil companies on a possible joint bid to develop the Kirkuk oil field in northern Iraq, a person familiar with the situation said.

 

Shell, China National Petroleum Corp., the parent of Hong Kong-listed PetroChina Co., and China Petrochemical Corp., the parent of China Petroleum & Chemical Corp., have yet to decide on equity stakes in the consortium, said the person, declining to be named.

Russia, Germany to Float Mobile Power Stations by 2010

Two revolutionary mobile power stations, developed separately by companies in Russia and Germany, could soon be afloat. Russian investment management company United Industrial Corp. (Russian acronym OPK) said last week it is on track to launch the world’s first floating nuclear power station by 2010, while German power generation giant RWE could soon pilot a combined-cycle gas turbine “power barge,” deploying it at continental shores where electricity is most needed.

Corps to Study Wyoming-Colorado Water Pipeline

Environmentalists and others question why the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plans a formal study of a Colorado entrepreneur's plan to build a 400-mile water pipeline from Wyoming to Colorado's bustling Front Range without knowing who would use the water or where it will go.

Aaron Million, a Fort Collins, Colo., businessman, has been pushing for years to develop the pipeline from Flaming Gorge Reservoir on Wyoming's Green River.

Nuclear Power in Gulf on the Way

A new industry is swiftly taking shape around what is expected to be the Arab world's first independent civil nuclear power program, according to an engineering, safety and risk management consultancy.

"Several GCC countries have shown interest in nuclear energy but it is in the UAE where moves to establish a legal and regulatory framework for the new industry are at an advanced stage with firm decisions expected any time now," said Pat Lawless, chief executive of ESR Technology, a company with operational bases in the UK and the Middle East.

Gazprom Neft Wants To Develop Eight Oil, Gas Deposits in Iraq

Russian energy giant Gazprom's oil arm Gazprom Neft is interested in developing six oil and two gas deposits in Iraq, the head of the company's Middle East projects said Saturday.

"We are participating in a tender with partners, there are six oil and two gas fields there," Alexander Kolomatsky told journalists.
