EPA Employing Lean Manufacturing to Streamline Permit Process

Several federal agencies, including the EPA, are in talks with the Toyota Production System Support Center (TSSC) “about a contract on how they could redesign the way they conduct environmental reviews and permit ‘high-priority’ infrastructure projects -- pipelines, ports, bridges and the electricity grid,” Bloomberg  reports.

The TSSC “consults with Toyota suppliers and outside manufacturers, and provides advice to organizations, such as hospitals, food banks and governments” on the Toyot “lean manufacturing” philosophy the company developed in the 1980’s.
