Valve Basics Courses Attract a Diverse Crowd

When attendees gather for VMA's next Valve Basics Seminar & Exhibits, Oct. 21-23 at the Hyatt Regency Riverwalk in San Antonio, they'll represent a cross-section of the industry: valve manufacturing, distribution, end-user industries, EPC/AEC firms, suppliers and more. Some attendees may be fresh out of engineering school, or have a non-technical background and wish to learn how to more effectively "speak the language of valves." Others may have focused on one product type for many years but wish to expand their knowledge of valves, actuators and controls. Despite their different backgrounds, we know from past evaluations that all are likely to benefit from the three-day course.

To learn more about VMA's 101 and 201 courses and to register, go to VMA.org > Meetings > Basics Seminar & Exhibits. Or contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., education coordinator, for more information.

Bridging the Talent Gap

Manufacturers are having a tough time filling jobs requiring skilled workers to replace retiring baby boomers, so it’s essential to work with the community, trade organizations, government and educational institutions to attract the younger generation. Among the organizations striving to fill the gap as well as educate young people about the valve industry is the Valve Manufacturers Association, which recently launched the Valve Careers Initiative. MORE

Isolation Valves Turn Up the Heat

Today's power industry is facing enormous pressure to clean up emissions and, at the same time, produce power more efficiently. One of the best ways to maximize operations of steam-powered power plants is to increase operating temperatures and pressures, which presents challenges to valve designers. What issues need to be overcome and how is the valve industry responding?
