Weir Group Posts 2.8% Increase in Profits

Scottish engineering giant Weir Group today posted a modest 2.8 per cent rise in full-year underlying profits and forecast further growth this year as it announced plans to buy back up to £50 million of shares.

The group said results at the valves and controls division had been affected by the "poor performance" of the UK valves business.

Mueller Co. President Doyce Gaskin (1955-2008)

It is with deep regret that we announce that Doyce Gaskin, president of Mueller Co., has passed away after a brief illness.

Doyce was named president of Mueller Co., in November of last year, but his many contributions to Mueller Co. go back more than 30 years to when he joined the company in 1975 as a production supervisor in Albertville, AL.

Sloan Valve Receives Cradle to Cradle Certification

Sloan Valve Company has become the first plumbing company in the world to receive the Cradle to Cradle Design certification for its products. MBDC, the product process and design firm that evaluates companies and their products based on their "eco-effectiveness," certified two Sloan plumbing products for silver level status: the Uppercut dual flush flushometer and the Royal model 111 manual flushometer.

Renishaw Appoints Former Rotork CEO Whiteley as Non-Exec. Director

Engineer Renishaw Plc. appointed Bill Whiteley, former CEO of peer Rotork Plc., to its board as an independent non-executive director, with effect from June 20.

Whiteley will be joining the company's Audit Committee and its Remuneration and Nomination Committee, said Renishaw in a statement.

Spirax Sarco Employees Celebrate Top Plant Award, Anniversary

So far, 2008 has been a big year for Spriax Sarco's plant in Blythewood, SC. The company is marking its 100th anniversary, and the Blythewood facility is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Add in the 2007 Top Plant designation from Plant Engineering, and it seemed like a party was in order. That's just what employees and dignitaries enjoyed in Blythewood on May 16.
