Emerson Technologist to Receive Honor from the AICHE

The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) recognized Dr. Douglas White, a principal consultant for Emerson Process Management’s PlantWeb Solutions Group, at their annual Spring meeting in Tampa, FL. Dr. White will receive the AIChE Fuels and Petrochemicals Division award, one of two FPD annual awards, for his outstanding technological contributions to the advancement of these industries.

Curtiss-Wright Flow Control Sales Up 5%

Curtiss-Wright Flow Control sales for the first quarter of 2009 were $230 million, an increase of 5% over the comparable prior year period. The sales improvement was due to solid organic growth of 3% and the contribution of our 2009 acquisitions, which provided $3 million in incremental sales in the first quarter of 2009.

Flowserve Reports Record First Quarter EPS of $1.64, Up 8%

Flowserve Corp. announced record first quarter results in earnings per share (EPS), sales and operating income in its Form 10-Q report for the first quarter of 2009 filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The company announced that first quarter fully diluted EPS and operating income growth were up 8% and 23%, respectively, over the first quarter of 2008.

Tyco Flow Control Revenue Nearly $1 Billion in First Quarter

Tyco Flow Control revenue of $927 million declined 9% due to changes in foreign currency rates with organic revenue growth of 5%. The Valves business grew 14% organically, which was partially offset by a 9% organic revenue decline in the Water business and a 1% organic revenue decline in the Thermal Controls business.

Valve Industry’s Modest Decline Will be Short-Lived

As in many industries, the last decade has been kind to the U.S. and Canadian industrial valve industry, which has seen a steady climb in sales and profits. But valve and actuator shipments rise and fall with the fate of the industries in which they are used, from power generation and chemical processing, to oil & gas and water/wastewater. Now, with many of those industries on a downward track, the Valve Manufacturers Association (VMA) estimates a 5% decrease in industrial valve shipments in 2009 — the first such decrease in a decade.
