Exelon Shuts IL Quad Cities 1 Reactor

Exelon Corp. shut the 867-megawatt Unit 1 at the Quad Cities nuclear power station in Illinois by May 25 to work on a couple of valves, a spokeswoman for the plant said on Tuesday.

She could not say when the unit would return to service, in part because workers were still repairing the valves. The valves could not be fixed while the unit was operating.

PBM Honored By Small Business Administration

The U.S. Small Business Administration has named Stuart Zarembo of PBM Valve as their Small Business Exporter of the Year for the Pittsburgh District. Garlock Garners EPA Clean Air Award

Garlock Sealing Technologies has received the U.S Environmental Protection Agency’s 2008 Clean Air Excellence Award for using a more environmentally friendly solvent in the production of its industrial gasketing.

Established in 2000 at the recommendation of the EPA Clean Air Advisory Committee, the award annually recognizes outstanding efforts toward achieving cleaner air.

MaxTorque Receives First Ship Set Order from U.S. Navy

MaxTorque, LLC has received the first ship set order for operators it developed specifically for the United States Navy’s new aircraft carrier platform.  The manual operators will be utilized throughout the ship, the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78), on over 1,200 high performance butterfly valves as well as a number of ball and control valves.

Curtiss-Wright Flow Control Acquires Northeast Technology Corporation

Curtiss-Wright Flow Control Company announced today that it has acquired all of the stock of Northeast Technology Corporation (NETCO) and an exclusive worldwide license of the NETCO Snap-In technology for a total of $3.5 million in cash. NETCO provides engineering analysis, software development, laboratory testing services and in-plant testing, and specializes in spent fuel management for the nuclear power industry.
