Emerson to Modernize Controls for Phoenix-Area Hydro Fleet

Arizona-based Salt River Project (SRP), one of the nation’s largest public power utilities, has selected Emerson to modernize the controls of multiple hydropower units and its central service center. SRP provides electricity to 1 million customers in the metropolitan Phoenix area and is also one of the largest raw-water suppliers in Arizona, delivering approximately 800,000 acre-feet of irrigation water annually. The SRP hydro fleet comprises eight units at four sites – Roosevelt Dam, Stewart Mountain, Mormon Flat and Horse Mesa – that are controlled by SRP’s Grid Operations in Scottsdale, Arizona.

During the first phase of the project, expected to be complete in the spring of 2018, Emerson will replace controls at Roosevelt Dam, Stewart Mountain and the East Valley Service Center. In phase two, controls at the Mormon Flat and Horse Mesa sites will be upgraded. 

CIRCOR Completes Acquisition of Colfax Fluid Handling

CIRCOR International has completed the previously announced acquisition of Fluid Handling (FH) from Colfax Corporation for approximately $693 million of cash and newly issued CIRCOR shares, and $150 million related to the assumption of pension plan liabilities linked to the FH business. FH will become a third group within CIRCOR, called Pumping Technologies, joining the Company’s existing Energy and Advanced Flow Solutions groups. 

Classic Controls Certified by ITT Engineered Valves, REXA

Classic Controls is now certified by ITT Engineered Valves to repair Skotch brand FM approved and general purpose burner shut-off valves for oil and gas fired systems.

REXA, Inc. has also appointed Classic Controls as its exclusive authorized sales representative in the state of Florida. Classic Controls provides industrial process instruments in southern Georgia, Florida and the entire Caribbean. 

Emerson Completes Paradigm Acquisition

Emerson has completed the purchase of Paradigm, a provider of software solutions to the oil and gas industry. Paradigm will be combined with Emerson’s Roxar software business to create a more comprehensive Exploration & Production (E&P) software portfolio offering.

Paradigm is headquartered in Houston and has more than 500 employees globally. The company provides tools that enable customers to gain insight into the subsurface, reduce uncertainty and support responsible asset management. 

MCAA Members Elect New Board of Directors for 2018

Measurement, Control & Automation Association (MCAA) president Teresa Sebring has certified the election of officers and directors of the MCAA for 2018. Bharat Naik, president of Reotemp Instruments, was elected chairman. SOR Controls Group Ltd president & CEO James M. (Mike) Waters will serve as vice chairman.

Bill Edinger, general manager for Process Instrumentation (PI) at Siemens Industry Inc., Process Industries & Drives Division was elected to the board as a director-at-large with a term through 2020. Also elected as a director-at-large was Ron Hegyesi, president of VEGA Americas.
