Garlock: ABRA-SHIELD Expansion Joint Liner Material

Garlock ABRA SHIELDGarlock has launched ABRA-SHIELD, a proprietary expansion joint liner material designed for abrasion resistance and sustainability in demanding high temperature operating conditions.

ABRA-SHIELD will be an option for use with a number of expansion joint products that Garlock offers – including styles 204, 206, 7250, 8400 and 9394. These uniquely constructed joints also provide high levels of protection from stress, misalignment, vibration, noise, shock and corrosion.

Media type and temperature play a significant role in the selection process of an expansion joint liner material. The specialty formulated hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber used in ABRA-SHIELD performs significantly better than common abrasion resistant solutions, with an operating temperature range up to 300°F.

In abrasion resistance testing – which provides data to compare materials and predict the lifetime of a material or coating – ABRA-SHIELD provided 50% higher abrasion resistance than standard EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber). ABRA-SHIELD will be the recommended solution in abrasive applications (such as slurry, ash and brine) with sustained or spiked temperatures between 180°F and 300°F. For temperatures outside of this range, other materials in Garlock's family of abrasion resistant expansion joints would be suggested.

ABRA-SHIELD is available as a liner material option on Garlock's expansion joint products, available immediately.

Chesterton: ViewIn Technology for Mechanical Seals

Chesterton ViewIn Technology for Mechanical SealsA.W. Chesterton Company is pleased to introduce their latest mechanical seal innovation: Chesterton ViewIn Technology, which greatly facilitates seal identification and maintenance.

Each ViewIn-enabled Chesterton seal is equipped with RFID tags that can be read using a Bluetooth-connected RFID reader to retrieve pertinent seal information, sealing device drawings, pressure test reports, materials of construction, and supplementary items. The new technology is initially available in Chesterton’s S10 and S20 Cassette Seals effective October 1, 2018.

“ViewIn provides a new level of efficiency in seal management,” says Steven Bullen, Global Product Line Manager, Chesterton Global Marketing. “This new Chesterton technology will greatly facilitate seal/pump maintenance by allowing personnel to access relevant seal information immediately, when they need it ̶ even when equipment is running.”

Crane ChemPharma & Energy: DEPA DH Pumps

Crane DEPA DH PumpsCrane ChemPharma & Energy announced the availability of the Next Generation DEPA DH line of Air Operated Double Diaphragm Pumps in cast stainless steel. This new range will include five sizes that are certified to ATEX Zone 0 and five that are certified to ATEX Zone.

Made of cast stainless steel (316L) and developed for highly efficient operations within industrial and chemical applications, the DEPA DH pump features an optimized pump design that can improve efficiency by up to 57% and increase flow rate by up to 10%. With a free-standing, bolted design, it is made of fewer parts than previous models, improving maintenance in place capabilities. Additionally, its flexiport design enables on-site adjustments to the port orientation, as well as expanded application opportunities within a pressure range of up to 8.6 bar (125 psi). DEPA DH Pumps can be equipped in sizes 15, 25 and 40 with an external air valve (the DEPA AirSave System) which allows for improved start up pressure, as well as easy access, repair and maintenance.
