Biden Administration Leases Federal Regions for Offshore Wind

This project is part of Biden’s commitment to generate at least 30 GW of offshore wind energy by 2030 and his pledge to cut U.S. fossil fuel emissions in half.

Interior secretary Deb Halland announced the Biden administration’s plan to lease federal regions along the Pacific coastline from the Gulf of Mexico to Ore. – and off the coast of Mid-Atlantic states and the Gulf of Maine – for offshore wind farms by 2025. According to an article by Thomas, there are currently seven regions along the West Coast, East Coast and Gulf of Mexico that have been identified as potential leasing areas.

This project is part of Biden’s commitment to generate at least 30 GW of offshore wind energy by 2030 – enough to power over 10 million American homes – and his pledge to cut U.S. fossil fuel emissions in half. The administration’s goal is for the U.S. to rely only on clean energy sources by 2050.

If successful, Biden’s new wind power plan could deliver clean energy to millions of American homes, provide jobs for over 44,000 Americans and actively fight climate change.
